The grand opening of the International Bibiliological Conference–2024

On April 18, the grand opening of the XX International Bibiliological Conference took place at the National Library of Belarus.

Anatoly Markevich, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Belarus, Vadzim Hihin, Director General of the National Library of Belarus, Alexander Babuk, Deputy Director General of the National Library of Belarus, and Vadim Duda, Director General of the Russian State Library, and Miguel Palacio, Deputy Director General of the All-Russian State Library of Foreign Literature named after M.I. Rudomino, addressed the participants of the conference with a welcoming speech.

On the first day, more than 40 reports by scientists from Belarus and Russia were presented at the plenary and working sessions. The online broadcast of the conference allowed everyone from different countries to attend it in absentia as guests.

The meeting was attended by Rector of the Minsk Theological Academy Archimandrite Afanasy (Sokolov), Director of the State Public Scientific and Technical Library of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences Irina Lizunova, scientific director of the State Public Scientific and Technical Library Yakov Shraiberg, head of the research Department of Rare Books of the Russian State Library Jamila Ramazanova, head of the Department of the National Polotsk Historical and Cultural Museum-Nature Reserve Vera Oshuyeva, a number of employees of the Central Scientific Library named after Ya.Kolas of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, employees of the Belarusian Agricultural Library named after I.S.Lupinovich, as well as representatives of other cultural institutions. There were reports by associate professors, candidates of art history of the Belarusian State Academy of Music, supplemented by chants performed by students of the Academy.

The range of issues discussed covered important aspects of the development of book culture – from manuscripts to the use of modern information technologies at all stages of the book's functioning.

International book readings are held annually and bring together specialists and scientists from various countries, being a good platform for discussing the problems of preserving, studying and transferring book heritage and culture to future generations.
