The National Library of Belarus invites to take part in the 5^th International Congress “The Library as a Cultural Phenomenon”, which will be held at the National Library of Belarus on October 18-19, 2018 (Nezavisimosti Ave., 116, Minsk, Republic of Belarus).

Preliminary List of Topics to be Proposed for Discussion:

• Building, planning and maintenance library: history and modern times
• Library architecture, design and space organization
• Library infrastructure engineering: mains supply, lighting, heating, ventilation and conditioning systems
• Library furniture and other specific library equipment
• Audio-, video-, tele-, media- technologies in the library
• Safety and security in libraries: tools and technologies
• Communication technologies and systems in libraries
• Networking hardware and software for libraries
• Use cloud computing in library services
• Information retrieval systems in libraries
• Electronic libraries and online resources in library and information space
• Scanning, copying and printing in the library
• Internet technologies in library services

Congress Working Languages: Belarusian, Russian and English

Original papers having scientific and practical importance are accepted. The collection of conference papers is projected for publication. The organizing committee is authorized to select papers for reading at the conference and articles for publication.

The paper should include: the title of the paper, author’s/co-author’s full name, science degree, the full name of the organization, city and country, the full name of a person who will present the paper at the Congress.

The total size of a report including annotations, drawings, addendums, schemes and etc. should be up to 6 pages, format A4, Times New Roman, type size 13, 1.5 line spacing, file type RTF (Microsoft Word).

The summary in Russian should contain up to 700 symbols (including spaces).

Presentations should be provided as ppt Microsoft PowerPoint files.

Papers and presentation submission

Please submit your paper and presentations to the e-mail: secretar@nlb.by not later than September 15, 2018.

Exhibition

As part of the congress, an exhibition "Libraries of the Future: Technologies, Buildings and Equipment" will present technical and technological innovations for the organization of information and library space: furniture, equipment, design solutions, software, computers, printers, scanners, publishing and other equipment used in the activities of cultural, research and educational institutions.

Conditions of participation:

Specialists of libraries, museums, archives, research organizations, educational institutions, representatives of the legislative sphere, developers and producers of software, hardware and information products, as well as specialists related to designing, construction, architecture and the operation of library buildings are invited to participate in the congress.

Lodging, meals and transportation are at the expenses of the participants.

You have to register online to participate as a guest or speaker. Deadline for registration is October 1, 2018.

Reading time:

20 min at a plenary session and 10 min at breakout sessions.
